Of course, some part of the audience switched from CS 1.6 on Source, but it can hardly be called a success, because many continued to enjoy the old game and did not even think about switching to the new one. But then CS:GO began to step on its heels.
When the world first saw a new game in the Counter Strike series with the tag Global Offensive, there was no limit to the discussions around it. Some claimed that the game would collapse, just like its predecessor on the Source engine, while others, on the contrary, were positive and wanted to get something completely new, as, indeed, it turned out.
At first, CS: GO had the same problems as CS2, new mechanics, maps, modes, rank system, skins – Valve was unable to release the finished product and they went a little differently. Over the course of 10 years, the game was constantly being improved, some bugs were fixed, some remained, just look at the era of Tec-9 and CZ-75, when they were just added to the game, or olofmeister’s additions to de_overpass, they became a whole story, which even now I’m not ashamed to tell, but does the same fate await CS2?
It’s too early to say whether CS2 will be able to repeat the success of its predecessor, but one thing is for sure – the game will be further developed, we will see a lot of new things, because Valve knows how to do this. It’s worth remembering how much noise there was around the redesigned maps, as well as smoke grenades – this is exactly the breath of fresh air that the players needed and they got it.
On the other hand, if Valve does not deal with the main problems today, then CS2 is more likely to turn into an unsuccessful CSS remake than a worthy continuation of CS: GO. Cheaters and sub-ticks are exactly what worries the community most now; we, in turn, believe that the game will manage to become a worthy continuation of the series, which will delight many more generations of players in the future!
